Free P2P content network from ex-Netscapers

Open Media Network is yet another venture which aims to bring together traditional broadcasting and P2P. They look like they’re putting together some interesting things: free content, “Season Tickets” so you can subscribe to shows, some sort of tagging functionality, automatic fetching from distributors’ RSS feeds, syncing with iPods and Tivos, and more. The network is being headed by ex-Netscape guy Mike Homer, with Netscape founder Marc Andreessen on the board of advisors.

This story isn’t without its share of irony, though: The “Open” Media Network is based on Kontiki, the proprietary BitTorrent-alike from Homer’s company of the same name, and despite Andreessen’s presence, OMN currently works with Internet Explorer only. However, the site says “Macintosh and Firefox versions … will be available soon,” which is encouraging.

SMS application

Today saw the launch of a really nice new SMS software. Its called Zyb and can be downloaded for free on www.zyb.com. Its got some really nice features like automatic forwarding of you messengers to email or other mobile phones, nice interface, online storage of your SMS and a sweet interface. To be honest I use it mostly to sms myself things I need to remember like or address. It’s a really good crew behind the development and I am helping them out a bit – so if you have any good suggestions let me know…

Cell Phone with Built-in Projector

Siemens researchers have developed a cell phone featuring a built-in projector system. A laboratory model was presented at CeBIT 2005 in Hanover. The system makes it possible to project a complete keypad or display onto a surface. With a special pen, users can write on the virtual keypad and operate the phone’s functions.

Always been a fan of peer group tools. Here are a couple that allow you to p2p file sharing with a small group. This can allow you to run a complete virtual office with no central server structure.. nice…
