Nokia E61

Have had the Nokia E61 phone for a bit. Its a quite cool blackberry replacement phone. It can sync with both exchange and imap servers, got decent battery time and there are quite a few features. Here are some of the software that I have played with.

- Google earth (http://www.google.com/gmm/index.html). Really cool – one of those I use a lot.
- Truefone (just to play with it – http://www.truphone.com/). Think Skype for mobile. Its a new technology called SIP which is a new standard that allow u to connect your E61 phone via wifi to a VOIP service.
- Get Zimbra working with the phone (http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/mail_for_exchange_downloads.php). If you happen to use Zimbra as your mobile server.

- download all your podcasts via wifi in the morning: http://www.europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,88753,00.html (instalation tips: http://www.e-series.org/archives/17). Good to get all your podcasts on your phone – so u can be entertained on your way to work

- Best browser: http://www.operamini.com/download/?phone=nokia_e61. Best for browsing.

- Get a new theme.. I use one called WHITE. Which is much nicer than the default.
- Telnet or SSL into a unix box: http://s2putty.sourceforge.net/download.html
-

- Hotspot finder (and other good apps): http://europe.nokia.com/A4149167

- Good chat client: http://shapeservices.com/en/index.php or http://www.agilemobile.com/ – these software does all messenger platforms

- Messenger and Hier is free

Eh, SIP pre-dates Skype by a long long time :-)

    Hello, Henrik
What’s your experience using SIP on your E61?
I have been experimenting with voipbuster.com on my N80 IE, but the audio quality is pretty poor – long delays and chopped up signal – not good enough to be of any practical use.

Delays etc can be helped by using smartroaming client (www.smartroaming.com). A reliable IM client is Fring (www.fring.com).
